The Travertine Trumpet Round takes the Calder top and puts it on timber. A turned dark walnut pedestal flares from a slim waist into a broad foot, the shape the trade calls a trumpet or tulip base, and it gives a round table a softer, more residential feel for hotel restaurants, lounges and cafés with warm interiors.
The top is 35½ in (90 cm) across, in travertine-look sintered stone with a 2 in (5 cm) thick edge; the stone sits on a thin brass line that separates it visually from the wood. The broad base is solid timber over an internal steel spine and a steel fixing plate, so the pedestal stays rigid and the top bolts on through threaded inserts rather than wood screws.
Because the foot is wide and round, there are no arms for chairs to catch on, which helps when the table is pulled into a curved booth. The timber is finished in a commercial lacquer that resists water rings; adjustable glides are concealed under the foot.
A counter-height version is possible on request with a widened foot.
