Set in a room of slate paving, timber stumps and water features, this table shows that a white stone top doesn't have to look formal. The surface is a soft white with grey veining, held in a rounded timber band that warms the edge and absorbs the knocks of a busy floor.
Two slender black square-section posts carry the top from a single rectangular plate. That geometry supports a rectangular top at both ends, so leaning on the far edge doesn't tip it, while keeping the knee zone open on the long sides. The plate is thin and close to the floor, easy to step over and to mop around.
Specifying it
- Use sintered stone in the marble look for heat and stain resistance; real marble is available if you accept etching and periodic sealing.
- Choose the band timber to match the chairs or the joinery: oak, ash or walnut tones.
- On uneven stone floors, levelling glides at each corner of the plate do the work (standard).
The same base works at dining, counter and bar heights; taller versions use a heavier plate. Top sizes are drawn to your plan.
