The Walnut Plate Pedestal Table is the plainest table in the line and one of the most useful: a square wood top with a strong walnut-tone grain on a slim steel column and a square plate foot.
The column and plate are finished in a dark bronze-black that lets the wood carry the look. The square plate sits parallel to the top's edges, so it can be pushed hard against a wall or a banquette front without the corners of the base catching a chair.
Wood tops in restaurants live or die by their finish. We use a hard commercial lacquer or a 2K polyurethane that resists water, wine and alcohol-based sanitiser, and we seal the underside as well as the top, which keeps the timber from cupping when one side gets wet more often than the other. The top is fixed through threaded inserts so it can be removed for refinishing years later.
Standard two-top sizes run 24–30 in square. The same base drives a counter-height version with a larger plate.
